N is for Neuroscience – 21 Days of Abundance

Warning: when feelings become the means of thinking, or if we cannot think greater than how we feel...we can never change. To change is to think greater than how we feel. To change is to act greater than the familiar feelings of the memorized self. ~ Dr Joe Dispenza

Day 14 – “As I let go of the need to arrange my life, the universe brings abundant good to me”

Our minds, just like our bodies, need a workout.  If exercise to the body is gaining strength, agility and flexibility, then learning for the brain is gaining strength, agility and flexibility in thought and that leads to creating a new life – to go with that new body!

Both the mind and body need to be challenged and it is only when we step outside of our comfort zones and meet our fears head on, will any change occur anywhere in our physiology.  The challenge comes from learning something new, something we imagined we would never do and from challenging old beliefs.  We could take for example the way we are now (thankfully) re-examining certain parts of our history.  In light of George Floyd and the phenomenal Black Lives Matter movement we are all required to rethink our history and contribution to the future because of it and rightly so.

We are learning that the British Empire, is not as ‘Great’ as many people would like to believe.  Even the argument of bringing ”civilisation” to a people makes me feel very uncomfortable.  Who do we as British people think we are? Do we really have the right to strip people of their culture or religion because we deem it to be savage or wrong?  Then in the same vain we commit the most unimaginable atrocities towards the very humans we are trying to civilise? And all of this is based on a manmade ideology that we now come to know as Racism, which is embedded in greed and power.

I don’t know about you, but every fibre of my being is tuned into the messages of centuries of colonialism, racism, environmental destruction and inequality.  Hearing the other side of the story is fascinating, and something has shifted within me.  It’s as if a light has been switched on and my brain and body won’t allow me to go back.  I am beginning to understand who I am, where I come from and my god given right to exist in whichever way I chose.  I am learning that equality exists, and it is the right of every human being.  Awareness leads me further to my truth.  Growing my mind and brain feels…Enlightening

Learning, as uncomfortable or as hard as it is, benefits the whole. The Whole consists of you, (which is a whole other universe in itself), everyone you encounter, the environment and the universe.

The title of this post is N is for Neuroscience and so we’ll touch on that a little.  What is Neuroscience?  Neuroscience is the study of Neurons.

Neurons are the carriers of information, little messengers of information.  They use electrical impulses and chemical signals to transmit information between different areas of the brain, and between the brain and the rest of the nervous system.  Everything we think, feel and do would be impossible without the work of neurons and their support cells, the glial cells called astrocytes (4) and oligodendrocytes (6).  Neurons communicate with each other by sending chemicals, called neurotransmitters, across a tiny space, called a synapse, between the axons (5) and dendrites  (3) of adjacent neurons.

This is amazing information – learning just that little bit has made me go…there is a whole electrical, chemical universe going on inside of me…and you!  I feel like my mind has just blown and I am staring at my body like it is magic.  We are phenomenal.

Often, we are told “this is how we do it”.  We don’t challenge limited thoughts or beliefs about ourselves or our communities, or the world because it is easier and simpler to stick to the old beaten track.  When we follow the path that is set before us by others, blindly, we stop learning and we shut down our own capacity for Greatness. Greatness which could set an example for others to achieve and then supersedes. A Greatness which is interwoven with diversity, creativity, opportunity, integrity, dignity and equality for every living organism.

It won’t always be easy but in the words of one of my favourite Authors “If you think adventure is dangerous, try routine – its lethal.  Discomfort teaches us new things and above all that we are capable of achieving the unknown. Isn’t that an inspiring thought, that there are still so many things to be explored, discovered and invented. And we can use this capacity to help lift humanity out of poverty, oppression and scarcity.

So why not lay new paths down in your brain by learning all the different ways your mind can be.  We are limitless and we are surrounded by Abundance.  I promise you – switch your thinking from scarcity to abundance, from limited to limitless in resources and thinking.  Do this for just 7 days and see how that change in perspective affects you mentally, physically, spiritually and emotionally.

21 Days of Abundance is showing us that when we are open and giving we are Great. When we share and teach, we are Great. When we take consideration of our whole surroundings we are acting in abundance with Greatness.

Have a Great week

  1. This is such a great post. I wholeheartedly agree that we need to exercise our brains as much as our bodies. I have always had a passion for learning. The older I get, the more I realize there is so much I don’t know, and the more I want to learn. If we are ever to solve the problems in the world today, we need to take the time to learn and listen.

P.S. Science was never my thing so thanks for explaining neuroscience in a way I could understand.

    1. No problem. When we found the diagram and put it together with Being Superhuman – a book by Dr Joe Dispenza (a nieourscientist) it made sense.

That saying – the older we get the more we realise the less we knew – isn’t it weird. Growing up we thought adults had all the answers, that they knew everything, life was sorted by the time you reached 30 something with spouce 2.4 children, house and car…seems thats not true! I am just astounded at the learning i am doing – and i wonder if we were taught differently at school, more holistically we would have the kind od understanding we come to in our older years quicker and possibly live better, in a more environmentally and human friendly manner. Sorry i think my brain just spilled out!! X

  2. Thank you for sharing this insightful post. I wholly agree that, like the body, the mind needs to be exercised. I find that the best way of doing that is through faith-based reading, intellectual conversations, and philosophical discussion; all of these can benefit the mind in their own respective ways.

  3. Thank you for sharing! I never really think about how much I don’t challenge things, when actually perhaps I should! Also love that quote about routine, too – definitely lethal and always good to switch it up! Have a great week 🙂

  4. I love a good neuron diagram!! I studied psychology in school with a focus on neuroscience and it was by far the most interesting area of study that I’ve ever learned. The brain is phenomenal and there’s so much unknown still!

  5. This is a cool blog series! And I definitely believe that mindset matters! Great point about challenging the mind to become more fit, like we challenge the body to become more fit. It all works together, can’t have one without the other. Thanks for this!

  6. Oh how I loved how you weaved this whole blog together! I also am partial to Tupac so kudos there! We all need to continue to grow and learn…. even if the learning we’re doing is unlearning our misconceptions! Great piece
