Christmas: The Best Time of Year!
by Chehak
Hey everyone, my name is Chehak!
For me Christmas is truly the best time of the year. You can visibly see a happy spring in my walk as soon as December sets in and I know that Christmas is close!! I am drawn so much to Christmas for 2 reasons…
The first thing that means the most to my Christmas celebrations is family. There is a particular reason for this. My family has not been known for celebrating Christmas for generations or anything. We are the first ones to have started the tradition and we’ve all grown into it together, as a family.
We began when I was a little girl, when we hardly knew anything about the festival and put streamers and ribbons on random plants in our house to try and replicate a Christmas tree. Over the years we started learning more and more about Christmas and added new elements to our celebrations!
It’s a way we all bond with each other. Decorating the tree together, sitting around it in our candle lit living room and eating Christmas cake while wishing for a happy year ahead and being grateful for having each other through thick and thin. The day feels magical!

The second aspect that I love about Christmas are the decorations! For me, it’s not just about that one day, it’s like a season that is spread over 3-4 months!
I start planning my Christmas day months in advance, not because it is necessary, but because I just can’t wait to get into the Christmas spirit!
I have this thing in which I challenge myself to come up with different Christmas decoration ideas each year and it gets my mind all working and creative juices flowing. I binge scroll Pinterest to find and try out new DIYs, and then spend time creating them.
Also, it is like a family tradition to buy something new for the tree each year and so going out in the markets searching for that one ornament that I still don’t own and would like to add to the tree is super exciting! Seeing marketplaces and malls with everything decorated in hues of red, white, golden and green and Christmas trees everywhere. It unleashes the child within me and I am always as fascinated as though I am seeing such a thing for the first time. This year, going street shopping for ornaments is certainly not in the list, but I do plan on trying a bunch of DIYs to create a special ornament to go on the tree!
I associate Christmas with everything nice, a lot of positivity and feed off it. Any time I am asked about Christmas or anything remotely connected to Christmas there is a sparkle in my eye! The celebratory traditions may be different in different homes, the reasons for celebrating Christmas may vary, but I believe that if one can connect with the Christmas spirit at any level, then the purpose of Christmas is fulfilled!
Hope you all have a wonderful Christmas❤️

When the tree comes out we start to get excited. It really doesn’t take much to get us feeling all excited and feeling Christmassy. Thanks for commenting xx

Yes, Pinterest is awesome for finding great ideas for Christmas and coming up with themes! How wonderful that the author’s family embraced this magical holiday, and is continuing the tradition. I wonder who it was that decided to start Christmas in her family and why?

We love it when there is a crossing/meshing of cultures. It makes everything feel so inclusive, as we all celebrate together and find magic in literally everything! Thank you for reading and commenting. x

Beautifully written!
The last sentence sums up how I celebrate Christmas and why I believe (even as a 30-year-old man) that magic exists this time of the year. The spirit and feel are incomparable to anything else.

Thank you so much! 😊
My idea of Christmas is based purely on movies and that is the main reason why my approach towards Christmas is dreamy, as though its magic, and I like to keep it that way!
It’s great to know the feeling is mutual and I hope to visit a traditional Christmas celebration one day!❤️🥰

Live for the honesty and surprised to hear that not everyone has been raised into the same believes that I have.. which also makes it something special for someone that grew into celebrating Christmas🎄

Yes, Christmas definitely holds a special place in my heart for the simple reason that it is out of pure curiosity and passion that I started celebrating!❤️😊

What a beautiful story. It’s always interesting to hear about Christmas from the perspective of someone who wasn’t “born into it” like I was.

Exactly! That’s why we loved the story. And that making your own decorations is such a bonding thing to do – every Christmas, my nieces and I go leave hunting so that we can create decorations for the house. Won’t be possible this year to do it together but we can show case our work – or even create something for their tree, as a gift! XX

Using actual leaves is a great idea, 🥰I’ll probably see if I can find some around my house and make my own wreath maybe!

We are yet to try a wreath. We think that is a fantastic idea x
